Educators across Malta are now trained to teach real-life money skills in the classroom.
Nineteen teachers from schools across Malta have officially become Accredited Financial Capability Teachers. The announcement came during a national ceremony held at HSBC Hall in Qormi.
This isn’t just another certificate. These teachers are now trained to bring money management and financial decision-making into their daily lessons. That means students across the island will benefit from more practical, real-life learning.
The training was led by JA Malta, together with the HSBC Malta Foundation and the Ministry for Education. The University of Malta endorsed the programme.
These educators teach a mix of subjects—from maths and ICT to ethics and even physical education. Now, they’re equipped to blend financial literacy into whatever they teach.
Most of the teachers also joined the Centre of Excellence in Financial Capability & Entrepreneurship. This national initiative pushes financial and business education in schools.
Professor David Mifsud presented the certificates at the event. School leaders, education officials, and representatives from HSBC and JA Malta also attended the ceremony.
Petra Ellul Mercer, who leads the programme, had high praise for the group:
“Educators, after parents and caregivers, influence our young people the most. Their passion and commitment keep the system moving forward. I’m proud of this group—they’re already making a difference in the classroom.”
Horace Laudi, speaking on behalf of the Ministry for Education, agreed:
“It’s not just about academics anymore. Students need to leave school ready to manage money and take smart decisions. These teachers are helping to build a stronger, more confident generation.”
