Birkirkara go six points clear as Sliema get back to winning ways
Birkirkara maintained their stranglehold on the 360 Sports Malta Premier after overcoming the challenge of champions Ħamrun Spartans while nearest rivals Floriana dropped two points after they were held by Marsaxlokk.
The clash between Ħamrun Spartans and Birkirkara was the most-awaited match of the weekend and Birkirkara provided another title statement when they overcame the challenge of Ħamrun Spartans 3-2 and assure themselves of a top-six finish.

Ħamrun Spartans FC (2 – 3) Birkirkara FC
It was the Spartans who struck first after Luke Montebello converted a first-minute penaltybut the Stripes fought back and managed to turn the result in their favour as two goals from Alex Satariano and another from Gikpe put them 3-2 ahead.
Young striker Shaisen Attard pull a goal back late on for the Spartans but it was too little too late as they suffered their second successive defeat.
Marsaxlokk FC (1 – 1) Floriana FC
Floriana needed a second-half goal to take a point against Marsaxlokk following a 1-1 draw.
Marsaxlokk took an early lead through Alex De Aguiar but Floriana managed to restore equilibrium through Dunstan Vella 20 minutes into the second half.
The Greens tried to press for a winner but had to settle for a point that left them six points adrift of Birkirkara.
Sliema Wanderers (2-0) Żabbar St. Patrick FC
Sliema Wanderers were back to winning ways when they overcame the challenge of ŻabbarSt Patrick 2-0.
First-half goals from Jean Borg and Simon Zibo earned the Blues the three points against a Żabbar side that had Strahinja Jovancic dismissed late in the second half.
Mosta FC (1-0) Hibernians FC
Hibernians’ inconsistent start to the season continued after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mosta.
Joshua Agyemang grabbed the all-important goal after ten minutes of play as Mosta boosted their hopes of a top-six finish.
Naxxar Lions FC (1-1) Gzira United FC
Naxxar Lions and Gżira United took a point each following a 1-1 draw.
Luan Sergio headed the Lions ahead but Gżira United struck at the death when Christian Saint-Abisindor headed the equaliser in stoppage time.
Melita FC (2-0) Balzan FC
Melita grabbed their second win of the season when they beat Balzan 2-0.
Jesus Yepez put Melita ahead before Jean Pierre Attard added a second to hand his team three points that lifted them to seventh place on nine points.
