Birkirkara FC (0 – 2) Hibernians FC
On Saturday, Birkirkara were desperate to clinch the three points against Hibernians and stay in the driving seat in the Top 6.
But Stefano De Angelis’ side failed to fire and were stunned by a determined Hibernians side who secured a deserved victory courtesy of goals in each half from Khevin Fraga and Alex Bruno to tie up with Sliema Wanderers in third place on 27 points.
Floriana FC (1 – 0) Sliema Wanderers FC
Floriana were back to winning ways with an impressive 1-0 win over Sliema Wanderers.
Emerson De Souza turned out to be the Greens’ hero when he notched the winner with a composed finish midway through the second half.
The only blemish for Floriana was the dismissal of Fernandinho late in the game that will rule him out of Saturday’s showdown with Birkirkara.
Ħamrun Spartans FC (1 – 2) Mosta FC
Mosta bagged their first win in the Top 6 when they needed a last-gasp goal from Giancarlo Goncalves handed them a 2-1 victory against Ħamrun Spartans.
Talison had given the Spartans an early lead but Mosta soon hit back and levelled matters through Sunday Okereke.
However, it was Mosta who had the final say when Goncalves grabbed the winner in stoppage time.
Melita FC (0 – 1) Żabbar St. Patrick FC
In the Bottom 6, Żabbar St Patrick kept up their charge to avoid the bottom two places when they edged Melita 1-0.
Vinicius was the Saints’ hero when firing the winner on 89 minutes to move the team outside the drop zone.
Marsaxlokk FC (1 – 1) Naxxar Lions FC
Naxxar Lions failed to leapfrom the Saints in the standings when they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Marsaxlokk.
Kayne Haber put Naxxar ahead but Marsaxlokk fought back and secured a point courtesy of a goal from Quitongo.
Gżira United FC (2 – 1) Balzan FC
Balzan were condemned to finish in the bottom two places after they were beaten by a ten-man Gżira United side 2-1.
The Maroons lost Marcelo Dias to a red card after 17 minutes.
But despite their numerical disadvantage they still managed to prevail courtesy of goals from Faysal Chouaib and Thaylor Aldama after Jan Busuttil had given Balzan the lead.
