The 360 Sports Malta Premier is set for an exciting finale as this season’s title crown will be decided in an unprecedented Final Four.
Floriana needed a win over Birkirkara to seal a record 27th league title, but the Stripes had other plans and held them to a goalless draw that pushed this year’s championship race into a Final Four play-offs.
Floriana and Birkirkara were joined by Ħamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers as the latter two clubs secured victories over Marsaxlokk and Mosta, respectively.
Here is a roundup of all the action from Matchday 32 by SportsDesk.
Birkirkara FC (1 – 1) Floriana FC
The game of the week was the clash between Floriana and Birkirkara, and while everyone expected the Greens to storm to victory, Birkirkara showed their true mettle with a resilient performance.
The Stripes were off to a storming start as they took the lead after three minutes. Stephen Makoma’s strike hit a firm strike that was pushed away by Christoffer Mafoumbi and from the rebound Maxuell Maia tucked home the rebound.
Floriana fought back and managed to equalise just before half-time when Dunstan Vella turned home Jake Grech’s cross.
The Greens tried to step up the pressure after the break but could not find a second goal as the stalemate prevailed.
Marsaxlokk FC (0 – 1) Ħamrun Spartans FC
Ħamrun Spartans booked their place in the Final Four as a goal from Raphael Lopes Silva earned them a win over Marsaxlokk.
Mosta FC (1 – 4) Sliema Wanderers FC
They were joined by Sliema Wanderers who broke little sweat to overcome Most 4-1.
Neil Frendo gave them an early lead before Wescley made it 2-0.
Kyrian Nwoko further extended Sliema’s lead before Samba Kone wrapped up the points with a fourth goal.
Jamie Scerri pulled one back late on for Mosta.
In the play-off semi-finals, Sliema Wanderers will face Birkirkara on Sunday before Floriana take on Ħamrun Spartans on Monday.
