Paul Zammit’s Wanderers maintained their good form of late when they overcame Birkirkara 1-0.
Mohammed Awad was the Blues’ hero after scoring a well-taken goal to lift his team at the top of the standings on 24 points, one ahead of Ħamrun Spartans.
Mosta FC (0 – 2) Ħamrun Spartans FC
The Spartans maintained their positive patch of late when they overcame the challenge of Mosta 2-0.
Joseph Mbong fired the Reds ahead with a stunning strike early in the first half before Raphael Lopes Silva headed home a crucial second just before the half-time interval.
Floriana FC (2 – 1) Marsaxlokk FC
Floriana ended a poor run of three matches without a win when they beat previous leaders Marsaxlokk 2-1.
Things were not easy for Darren Abdilla’s side who found themselves a goal behind when Nikolai Muscast put Marsaxlokk ahead.
But the Greens refused to throw in the towel and they levelled matters soon after from a Franklin Sasere penalty and went on to clinch the three points when Oualid El Hasni poked the ball home from close in following a corner action.
Hibernians FC (0 – 1) Naxxar Lions FC
The Paolites were made to pay for a string of missed chances as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Naxxar Lions.
Ryan Gilmour Cassar netted the winner for the Lions when he converted a penalty.
Żabbar St. Patrick FC (1 – 2) Gżira United FC
Żabbar St Patrick came up short when they lost to Gżira United.
Jackson Mendoza netted his first goal of the season to fire his team ahead but the Saints levelled matters through a Joseph Minala own goal.
Thiago Espindola restored their lead just before the break.
Balzan FC (3 – 1) Melita FC
Balzan moved out of the bottom spot when they eased past struggling Melita 3-1.
Udo Akpan to put Balzan ahead and although Melita levelled matters through Aldair Simanca, Andrew Cohen’s side still managed to fight back and seal their win with goals from a brace from Oluwatobilola Awosanya.
