Spike for a Cause: 53 Hour Volleyball Marathon!
Preparations are in full swing for this year’s Volleyball Marathon.
The Volleyball Marathon is a 53-hour event.
Its kicks off on Friday, July 19 at 6:30 PM and wraps up at midnight on Sunday, July 21.
This is the 14th edition of this event and they want to make it bigger than ever before!
With 40 players and 100 volunteers helping out during the event, the marathon aims to raise funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
Dar Tal-Providenza needs around €8m annually to operate.
This annual event is a very important fund-raising opportunity for the home.
It also champions volunteering, active lifestyle through sports, and respect and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Those aspiring to be athletes participating in the event and volunteers have already started prepartions!
Over 70 athletes are currently training and will eventually be brought down to the final 40 who will then take on the 53 hour challenge.
Those selected will spend a full weekend at Dar Tal-Providenza doing shifts to cover the entire duration!
Every evening during the marathon attendees can enjoy musical performances on the main stage, along with food stalls and games for children.
The marathon will be broadcast live on major local TV channels, as well as on the Dar tal-Providenza website and Facebook page.
