San Ġiljan reclaimed their place at the top of Maltese water polo, securing the BOV Winter League title after a tense showdown against rivals Sliema. With just three points separating the teams ahead of the final match, San Ġiljan needed at least a draw to secure the championship. The match was a nail-biter, ending 12-12 in regular time after Sliema mounted a late comeback. Despite losing captain Matthew Zammit late in the game, San Ġiljan held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out, triumphing 16-14 to seal the title and a six-point lead over Sliema. The trophy was presented by Ernest Agius, Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta, and Karl Izzo, President of the Aquatic Sports Association, in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq.
