Earth day is a worldwide event that teaches us to take care of our environment and be alerted to the constant changes in the world.
From the water levels rising due to climate change to the extinction of animals, the changes one should make is up to us.
So, how can we, as Maltesers who love the beach and sunny skies, contribute to keeping our country clean?
Car-pooling
Many benefits come from carpooling in Malta especially since we currently have more cars than our own species. The lack of traffic doesn’t only stop the extensive road rage every one of us has, but it also minimises air pollution.
Invest in reusable everyday objects
One thing people in Malta love more than fresh Pastizzi is Beer. I mean who doesn’t enjoy a cold one on a hot sunny day by the beach whilst listening to multiple children screaming? One thing you can do is make sure that your waste stays in the right place.
Bottles and cups
Replacing plastic bottles or cups with glass, is not only extremely helpful for the environment but also for our physical health. Plastic is a toxic chemical that can easily be replaced.
Shopping bags
Another easily replaceable object is a shopping bag. That’s right, you know that Lidl bag you always forget that’s in the trunk of your car. That can be used for another shopping trip like your daily trip to the bakery. As the famous TikTok sound says, “get that bread, that head, then leave, peace out”, the boomers sure love that one.
Beaches and streets
Malta is abundant with beautiful beaches and historical streets, so why not do our best to keep them spotless? Keep that Pastizzi bag in your hand for a few more seconds till you spot the trash can! Don’t forget to take a small bag with you to the beach to use for your rubbish too.
Cigarette buds
And last but not least, buy a small cigarette bud pouch to avoid leaving them in the sand while you’re having that fresh beer.
