The stakes are already high for actors, but they are even higher when they become directors.
These actors didn’t want the directors to have all the fun!
Here are some well-known actors who became successful directors.
Greta Gerwig
Greta Gerwig was mostly known for acting in independent movies with her partner Noah Baumbach.
In 2017, she took the plunge into directing with her solo debut Lady Bird, a coming of age movie about womanhood.
She repeated that feat two years later with Little Women proving to be yet another major success with audiences during award season.
She is now the talk of the town with Barbie, what is expected to become the biggest movie directed by a woman.
Ben Affleck
He is one of the most recognised faces in Hollywood starring in many blockbusters and critically acclaimed movies.
He also has an impressive director resume starting in 2007 with Gone Baby Gone.
Ben wanted his hometown of Boston to be the setting for the movie and felt very secure whilst filming.
Three years later, he returned to Boston for his second movie The Town followed by Argo which won him Best Picture at the Oscars.
This year he released Air, focusing on the creation of Air Jordan sports shoes.
Regina King
For decades, Regina has taken over our screens, both on television and in movies whether in main or supporting roles.
This included an Oscar win for If Beale Street Could Talk in 2019.
She also directed several television episodes and in 2020, her first movie, One Night in Miami.
King said she wanted black people to see themselves in the movie, as it focuses on four of the most powerful black figures in history.
Bradley Cooper
Prior to his directorial debut, Bradley was most known for acting in multiple movies spanning different genres.
This includes The Hangover Trilogy, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and even Guardians of the Galaxy.
He said he always wanted to direct and that came true in 2018 with A Star is Born.
Cooper is set to direct a biopic about legendary composer Leonard Bernstein this year.
Olivia Wilde
Everyone knows Olivia as Remy Hadley on House for five years alongside other movies like Tron Legacy.
She stepped into directing in 2019 with Booksmart.
Her main reason why she wanted to direct was because she wanted to try and love everything.
This was followed by Don’t Worry Darling a few years later.
Jordan Peele
He is known for his comedic sketch work alongside Keegan Michael Key on Key and Peele.
2017 was a life-changing year for him as he directed Get Out, a horror movie tackling social themes.
He won Best Screenplay at the Oscars and maintained his style with his next two movies Us and Nope.
