Alternative Christmas Movies To Watch This Holiday Season

December is well underway which means Christmas time is here.

It’s time to enjoy the festivities with our friends and families and think about the presents we will buy.

It’s also time to watch some Christmas movies from our homes.

Here are ten alternative movies to watch this Christmas in addition to the usual repertoire.

 

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

This live action Disney fantasy adapts CS Lewis’s first Narnia novel.

It follows the four Pevensie siblings who find a wardrobe and discover the magical world of Narnia.

It has a wintery setting as the villainous white witch curses Narnia.

Father Christmas plays a pivotal part as he gives the siblings items that help defeat the witch.

 

Edward Scissorhands

An artificial man with scissors is taken in by a suburban family after his inventor dies and falls in love with the family’s daughter.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s first collaboration is Gothic on the surface but deep down this is one for the holidays.

It is designed as a bedtime story that captures the magic and spirit of the holiday.

 

Die Hard

Bruce Willis stars as NYPD detective John McLane, who visits his wife on Christmas Eve.

Things take a bad turn when he is trapped in the Nakatomi Plaza hotel.

It is taken over by Hans Gruber and his terrorists where John has to kill them.

This iconic Hollywood blockbuster is a non-stop battle royale and brings explosive flavor to Christmas.

Gremlins

On Christmas Eve, a young man receives an unusual pet as a gift. 

He accidentally unleashes small but destructive monsters that cause havoc in the entire town.

Gremlins combines horror, comedy and fantasy to create a chaotic but eventful ride.

It also has the backdrop of Christmas and the aspect of giving gifts during the holidays.

Black Christmas

This 70s Canadian slasher flick features a group of sorority sisters who are stalked, taunted and murdered on Christmas day.

It has gained a strong following nearly 50 years after being released as a slasher and who dunnit all in one adding a dark twist on the holiday.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

The Griswolds plan to have an eventful Christmas, but disaster keeps getting in their way.

A 1980s comedy classic, this is the third installment in the National Lampoon Vacation series.

A laugh out loud fest from start to finish and a daily tradition to watch every year during this time.

 

Krampus

Michael Dougherty directed this holiday movie that slipped under the radar in 2015.

It is based on German folklore about a creature that punishes people for not believing in Christmas.

The Engel family’s son Max is the next target when he tears up Santa’s letter.

He doesn’t believe in Christmas as the family’s tension with one another reaches tipping point.

Anna and the Apocalypse

Little Haven faces a zombie apocalypse where Anna and her friends stick together to survive.

A unique tale that is an apocalyptic musical during Christmas with catchy songs and exciting action.

 

Little Women

The March sisters experience womanhood in Concord, Massachusetts during the 19th century.

Greta Gerwig directs the seventh screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless novel.

It is filled with warmth and love with its atmosphere, and it also begins at Christmas.

Happiest Season

The latest movie in this article is a romantic comedy drama centered on a same-sex relationship.

Abby and Harper are about to spend their first Christmas together.

The latter has not informed her family about her relationship and sexuality.

Directed by Clea DuVall, it is an autobiography of her family experiences and destined to be a future Christmas classic.
