4th October is World Animal Day, where every animal around the world is remembered and celebrated.
Everyone has definitely owned at least one animal in their lives whether it’s a dog, cat or hamster.
There are also animals or species that you may have never heard of them before.
Here are some of them.
Maned Wolf
A South American canine, it is strikingly similar to a wolf, but it is not the same as either a fox or a deer.
It avoids interacting with humans and tries to establish symbiotic relationships.
Narwahls
These large tusk whales are not fans of climate change and reside in the Arctic.
Dumbo Octopus
An umbrella octopus found around the world that got its name from Disney’s Dumbo due to its ears.
Macropinna Microstoma
A fish species that lives almost motionless over 500 metres in the sea.
On its head is a fluid-filled dome where its eyes’ lenses can be seen.
Shoebill
A stork with an enormous shoe-shaped beak.
It is located on the tropical side of East Africa and known for its slow movement and statue-like motions that last for long periods of time.

This African animal in Madagascar is a mix of hedgehogs. possums, shrews, and rats.
It is the only mammal in the world that rubs certain body parts to create sounds that snakes and insects usually do.
Sunda Colugo
An Asian species in Indonesia, this lemur-like animal glides and is very active during the night.
It also feeds on plants’ smallest parts like leaves and fruits.
Panda Ant
Its name may sound like it belongs to an ant species but it is a cow-killing wasp without wings.
It also has a very short lifespan of two years.
Hummingbird Hawk Moth
As the name implies, it feeds on flowers and its sound is made of humming.
You may be surprised that it has a decent memory for learning colours.
Atheris Hispida
Alternatively known as the Spiny Bush Viper, this snake is not just vennomous with its bite but also for its scales.
Goblin Shark
This very rare shark has also been called a living fossil.
It is the only existing member of a shark family alive for 125 million years.
Since these sharks live at the deepest level of the sea, they pose no threat to humans.
Sri Lanka Frogmouth
A Sri Lankan and South Indian bird, it has massive vision fields thanks to its large head and narrow nostrils.
