Three sold-out shows. Passion, power, and a modern twist on Shakespeare’s timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet.
The Company of Dance Arts took centre stage with its stunning production of Romeo and Juliet. The show ran on October 10 and 12 at the Valletta Campus Theatre.
All three performances sold out, and it’s easy to see why. The dancers brought Shakespeare’s timeless story to life with breathtaking choreography and heartfelt emotion.
Each scene told a story of love and conflict. Moreover, the lighting, costumes, and music worked beautifully together, pulling the audience straight into Verona’s world.
Under the direction of Sara Bianchi, the production mixed classical and contemporary styles. The grace of neoclassical dance met the expressive depth of lyrical movement. Meanwhile, a touch of Spanish flair added fire and energy to the performance. As a result, the story felt both classic and fresh.
Rowena Grech, Principal of the Academy of Dance Arts, described the performance as “a reflection of the incredible dedication and maturity of our company dancers, who continue to push the boundaries of what performance can achieve.”
Beyond the romance, Romeo and Juliet explores universal themes; love, hate, and the fragility of life. Through dance, the Company of Dance Arts transformed those emotions into a powerful and moving performance. Ultimately, it reminded audiences that even in tragedy, love remains eternal.
The Academy of Dance Arts, Malta’s leading dance school, continues to elevate the local arts scene. In fact, every production showcases the incredible talent of Malta’s young performers. With each new show, the Company of Dance Arts proves that dance in Malta is thriving — and that storytelling through movement is stronger than ever.
