You’ve probably heard the saying “opposites attract” before, but is it really true?
Here are some of the pros and cons of matching up with your opposite.
The Benefits Of Being With Your Opposite
You can balance each other out
Like sweet and salty, you can balance each other out.
Two opposites can compliment each other’s personalities and also lifestyles as both will be able to bring different things to the table.
You can learn from each other
Opposites are more likely to have different interests.
Sharing these interests can help the other branch out and learn about different areas.
You’re less likely to get bored
Spending time with your opposite can help you break from your routine and even make your life more interesting.
You’re more likely to experience things you would not have experienced with people who are similar to you.
You’ll learn how to compromise
When interacting with your opposite you will need to be more patient and compromising to see the other person’s perspective.
The Downsides Of Being With Your Opposite
It takes more effort and communication
You’re more likely to encounter obstacles that will take more time and effort to work through than with someone similar to you.
It will also take longer in the beginning to understand each other.
You face more conflict
If you are too different from a person this can create conflict between opposing viewpoints, beliefs or personalities.
This may become a struggle to deal with in the long run.
It can be challenging to find common ground
You may not always meet eye to eye with this person and if this cannot be resolved this can cause friction between two people.
In these situations rather than balancing each other out you will be working against each other.
You may find you both have widely differing lifestyles and goals
Sometimes two people’s lifestyles simply don’t match and that’s perfectly normal.
This can be tough to work through as you’re less likely to find yourself wanting to do the same things.
Overall every relationship has its ups and downs and this is true for two peas in a pod or two polar opposites.
Whether opposites really do attract is up for debate but it is worth considering the pros and cons that could result when two people are opposites.
