We finally have the first trailer for one of the most anticipated movies this year, Wonka.
Wonka is directed by Paul King known for Paddington Bear.
It stars Timothée Chalamet as the main character.
Yep, he plays Wonka.
We are still a few months away from its release, but here is everything you need to know before watching Wonka.
An origin story
Wonka will be set a few years before Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory based on Roald Dahl’s timeless novel.
The story was adapted twice for screen in 1971 and 2005 where Jean Wilder and Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka.
Although plot details are yet to be revealed, it will depict Willy Wonka’s journey before opening the chocolate factory.
A lighthearted and pleasant movie
The director emphasised that he wanted this movie to be a companion piece to the 1971 classic rather than dark.
Most of the cast also signed on to this for its positive message and the joy it brings to the experience.
This is an early sign that it will be a favourite among families of all ages.
Chalamet performs his own songs
Just like the previous adaptations, this will be a musical so music fans are in for a treat! 🍫
Timothée will also sing and dance to the songs featured.
Paul King said Timothée spent several months rehearsing and recorded the music at the famous Abbey Road studio.
The actor is no stranger to music as he once won a talent show by rapping at his high school.
A Star-Studded Cast
Chalamet leads the line in a cast full of A-listers.
The likes of Keegan Michael Key, Olivia Colman and Matt Lucas will all star in the movie.
We do know that Sally Hawkins will play Wonka’s mother and Hugh Grant will play one of the Oompa Loompas.
Rowan Atkinson will also appear in a relatively small role as a priest.
The movie is scheduled to release on December 15th and you can watch the trailer right here!
