Fans Are Throwing Items At Musicians In Concerts: Here’s Why!

Every musician, regardless of whether they are mainstream, independent or upcoming wants to hit the stage.

We all love going to concerts !

It is no secret that performing in front of thousands if not millions, is one for the record books of every musician.

However, they are now faced with the challenge of knowing what is taking place in the crowd.

Over the past few months, concert goers have targeted many performers on stage and thrown various items.

Bebe Rexha, Harry Styles and Drake were hit by projectiles in their heads, eyes or arms.

Pink was stunned when someone threw their mother’s ashes.

Someone threw an adult sex toy at Lil Nas X whilst touring Sweden.

Ava Max was slapped by a fan midway through her performance.

This trend has unsurprisingly and quickly become alarming for musicians and their lack of safety is very concerning.

Adele is one of the many that recently spoke about this during her Las Vegas concert.

She warned that she would “kill” someone if he/she throws something at her.

Charlie Puth also said it was disrespectful and dangerous that this keeps happening.

Many professionals have also discussed why this trend is becoming viral for all the wrong reasons.

David Thomas, a forensic university professor blames social media platforms like Tik Tok.

Concert goers get their few seconds of fame for this reason and become copycats.

Paul Wertheimer, a concert security expert said that this trend has been happening since the 60s at rock shows.

Some are also worried that concerts haven’t been the same after the pandemic.

These two factors have seen a gradual shift in people’s behaviours, and an increase in discomfort in crowded spaces.

Thankfully, people working behind the scenes at concert venues work hard to ensure everyone’s safety.

Several venues like the iconic Metlife Stadium prohibit fans from carrying harmful projectiles used as weapons.

Security is also ramping up performing multiple spot checks on security to ensure such dangers do not occur.

Ultimately, everyone needs extra caution when walking into a concert.

You firstly pay a lot of money to watch your favourite musician perform.

But most importantly you come to a concert to create memories and listen to some of your favourite songs on your tracklist.
