From Essaouira to Malta, this cross-cultural film tells powerful stories of women reclaiming their strength, and you can be part of it.
A Voice for Women Across Borders
They say when women come together, powerful things happen. That’s exactly what sparked Force des Femmes — a new cross-cultural documentary led by Maltese filmmaker Larissa Bonaci, telling the raw, emotional stories of women in Morocco who’ve faced trauma and are now reclaiming their strength. From Essaouira to Malta, this project is all about giving women a voice — and you can be part of making it happen.
Three years ago, while visiting Essaouira, Morocco, she met Souad Dibi, the incredible woman behind the El Khir Feminine Association. Despite not speaking the same language, their shared mission was clear: give women a voice.
That moment sparked Force des Femmes, a raw and powerful documentary that tells the stories of women rising above abuse, trauma, and silence. The goal? To showcase their strength and share it with the world.
From Malta to Morocco: A Mediterranean Collaboration
Larissa teamed up with João Amante, a Portuguese director, producer, and DOP and filmmaker/editor Anita Falcão to bring the vision to life. Their team now includes creatives from Malta, Morocco, France, and Portugal, united by a single purpose: amplify women’s stories that matter.
The first shoot took place in early 2025 in Essaouira, Morocco, where the crew documented the lives of three women supported by the El Khir Association. The footage captures raw emotions, hard truths, and undeniable strength.
Why They Need Your Help
To finish the documentary, the team is crowdfunding €25,000 on Indiegogo. Here’s what that funding will support:
-
Translating & subtitling interviews (Arabic & French to English)
-
Post-production editing
-
Filming the Malta chapter
-
Sound design, music licensing, and colour correction
-
Film festival submissions & outreach
🎥 Perks for supporters include behind-the-scenes content, early access, your name in the credits, and invites to private screenings.
Even if the full goal isn’t met, every cent will go toward editing and translating the footage already captured — so this important story can still move forward
More Than Just a Film
Force des Femmes is about more than Morocco, it’s about women everywhere. It highlights the resilience of those who have faced abuse, silence, and shame and are now finding their voice through support, healing, and empowerment.
During filming in Essaouira, the team was supported by Jules and Anna, a French couple volunteering at the association who helped with translation. Their support was key in building trust and connection between the filmmakers and the women featured in the documentary.
The Reality of Independent Filmmaking
Making a cross-cultural documentary like this isn’t easy. Funding, scheduling, language barriers, and international logistics all come into play.
But this team has already tackled the hardest part: starting. With footage in hand, a strong vision, and global collaboration, all that’s needed now is a final push from supporters like you.
