All of us couch potatoes have been eagerly looking forward to binge on Netflix’s ‘Blockbuster’ which released yesterday.
The witty sitcom set in a VHS rental store and actually produced by streaming giant Netflix has all the right ingredients to be a success.
Its creator is Vanessa Ramos who was one of the writes and producers on both ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Superstore’.
The cast includes Melissa Fumero (who we loved playing Amy Santiago in ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’) and Randall Park who will be in the upcoming ‘Aquaman’ movie).
When Netflix launched in 1997 Blockbuster was the video rental champion, and nobody could think of a day when the tables would turn!
Netflix had actually approached Blockbuster to invest in them and legend has it that Blockbuster laughed off the $50m request.
Today Netflix is worth over $200 billion and Blockbuster is history.
So you can see why we are excited about this new sitcom.
The story revolves around the last rental VHS store on Earth struggling to make ends meet because all its customers are streaming movies, now where have we heard that story?
Now that it has been released the first reviews are in, and some of them are not great!
From “cute but forgettable” to “wasted opportunity” the reviewers are not being kind.
Could it be that Netflix tried to make fun of their old rivals and failed miserably?
We are still not sure what we make of it but would love to know your reactions!
