What is Nature trust
Nature Trust is a local environmental organisation that focuses on a number of areas of importance.
Amongst these are education for sustainable development and raising awareness on issues such as climate change, pollution, marine biodiversity and loss of biodiversity.
They are also devoted to managing and preserving ecological sites of importance and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
What is Nature trust trying to accomplish
Nature trust is aiming to set up the first wildlife rehab centre in Malta that will cater for injured wildlife. These will include a variety of terrestrial and marine animals ranging from hedgehogs and bats to sea turtles, dolphins and whales.
In 2019 they managed to get an EU funding of 2 million euros which would have previously covered the costs. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine war, prices have unfortunately gone up.
The previous 2 million is now insufficient and to complete the project they must raise another 100,000 euros. The project must be completed by the end of June 2023 to avoid the EU taking action against them. They are therefore trying to raise the remaining 100,000 euros by then as well.
How you can help
Nature Trust Malta is accepting donations via bank transfer or Revolut transfer on their Wildlife IBAN MT18 VALL 2201 3000 0000 4002 353 8289 , Swift code VALLMTMT.
You are also able to virtually adopt a sea turtle or hedgehog that are in need of rehabilitation. Your adoption will help provide the necessary supplies to rehabilitate and hopefully release back into the wild. With your adoption you will receive an adoption certificate and will even be invited for the release of your adopted animal when the time is right!
If you’re unable to donate or adopt any animals make sure to share the message! And remember every little helps!
