A New Era for Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Education in Malta
Malta is making big moves in financial education! The JA Centre of Excellence in Financial Capability and Entrepreneurship has officially launched. This programme will help students and teachers gain important financial and business skills. Moreover, it will ensure that financial education becomes a key part of the learning experience.
What’s the JA Centre of Excellence?
The Centre is a partnership between JA Malta, the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, and the HSBC Malta Foundation. It supports Malta’s Educational Strategy 2024–2030 by teaching real-world financial and business skills. Most importantly, it makes financial literacy a key part of learning. As a result, students will be better prepared for their future.
How Does It Work?
The Centre gives schools learning tools, teacher training, and expert support. Consequently, schools will get:
- Fun, hands-on learning to make financial education engaging.
- Teacher training to build confidence in financial topics.
- Recognition for success, with top schools earning the ‘Centre of Excellence’ title.
Why It Matters
Teachers in the programme feel more confident teaching financial topics. Additionally, students learn skills to manage money, plan careers, and adapt to a changing economy.
The programme also helps the economy. In fact, it improves financial knowledge, reduces inequality, and encourages entrepreneurship. A financially smart generation will make Malta stronger!
Who’s Involved?
The first schools taking part are:
- St Catherine’s High School Primary
- The Archbishop’s Seminary Secondary and Primary
- St Clare’s College Secondary Pembroke
- San Ġwann Primary
- St Joseph Mater Boni Consilii Primary
These schools are already seeing great results. Furthermore, more schools will soon join, increasing the impact.
