Out June 6th via SoCal Records, “I Hate It” explores heartbreak, regret, and the scent that still lingers.
Maltese alt-pop duo Kayati are back—and this time, they’re cutting deep.
Their latest single “I Hate It” drops on June 6th on all major streaming platforms, released via the LA-based label SoCal Records. The track is a raw, emotional journey through the fallout of a past relationship—one that still echoes long after it’s over.
The song speaks to that all-too-relatable moment when you finally see a failed relationship for what it really was. From the emotional highs to the glaring red flags you ignored, “I Hate It” unpacks the regret, frustration, and quiet clarity that follows heartbreak.
“We wrote ‘I Hate It’ back in 2021, just the two of us with a guitar in our bedroom,” Kayati shared. “At first we weren’t totally sure about it, but once the lyrics started flowing, it just clicked.”
Produced by Peter Borg at Railway Studios, the track was part of a batch of demos sent to SoCal Records—a move that paid off when the label instantly connected with the emotional weight of the song.
But “I Hate It” isn’t just another sad breakup track. It taps into the unexpected ways the past creeps in—like the smell of cigarettes that suddenly hits you and pulls you back into old memories. It’s a sensory punch that anyone who’s been through it will get.
Kayati have a knack for blending raw storytelling with moody, alt-pop vibes—and this one hits different. Whether you’re in your feelings or just need a track that gets it, “I Hate It” is worth the listen.
