The National Pool at Tal-Qroqq hosted three intense matches on Sunday which saw three teams being crowned waterpolo knockout champions.
At the Official Radio Partner of the Malta Aquatic Sports Association we were there to see all the waterpolo action.
Women’s Waterpolo Knockout Final
Sliema 7
Sirens 6
In an intense match Sliema came out on top, winning 7-6 against Sirens.
Sliema ASC had been controlling a two goal lead for most of the match.
With 30 seconds on the clock Sirens scored to reduce the deficit to one goal.
It was looking like it would turn into an intense finale but Sliema kept their composure and won the game and the trophy!
Men’s Division One Waterpolo Knockout Final
Birżebbuġa 10
Marsaxlokk 15
Birżebbuġa got off to an early 3 goal lead in the first few minutes of the game.
But once slowly Marsaxlokk clawed their way back into the game and were leading by two goals by halftime.
They then continued to control the match up until the final moments and won with a 5 goal lead to be crowned champions!
Men’s Premier Waterpolo Knockout Final
Sliema 9
San Ġiljan 12
Having already one three trophies this season one can say San Ġiljan were considered favourites from the outset.
The game delivered to the usual expected intensity and by the end of the first session the score was already 3-5 in favour of San Ġiljan.
Fans on both side of the complex engaged in banter and pushed their teams forward.
In the third session the game was all balanced at 8-8 before San Ġiljan made the most of the opportunities to build a three goal lead and win the trophy.
The attention of waterpolo fanatics now turns to the last few fixtures in the Summer League for both the Premier and First Division.
