Chewing Productions fuses nightlife and performance art in a bold new show!
This August, San Ġwann’s Liquid nightclub will swap dance floors for drama as it hosts SAFE HAVEN—a bold, immersive theatre event created by local collective Chewing Productions.
Blending live music, dance, video, poetry, and theatre, the performance turns the club into a fully interactive artistic experience.
A Corporate Party on the Edge
Set during a fictional corporate event, SAFE HAVEN follows two office workers as they spiral into burnout and personal transformation. Rather than sitting in traditional theatre seats, the audience moves through the venue, becoming part of the action.
The show explores timely themes like overdevelopment, emotional exhaustion, the loss of connection to nature, and the blurred lines between our public and private selves.
A Celebration of Local Talent
The project brings together a wide range of local talent. Among the performers is Vibe FM’s very own Kayley Jo Vella, who takes to the stage as one of the dancers.
She’s joined by an impressive creative team including:
- Composer Aleandro Spiteri Monsigneur
- Theatre-maker Alex Weenink
- Filmmaker Chelsea Muscat
- Techno DJ Chouhal
- Dancer Luke Brincat
- Actors Kaylie Magri and Miguel Formosa
- Writer Sarah Zammit Munro
- Photographer and designer Rebecca Zammit
Performed in both English and Maltese, SAFE HAVEN invites attendees to dress in office attire, blending audience and performer in a shared space that’s part party, part performance.
A New Kind of Theatre
Founded in 2022, Chewing Productions has become known for its experimental, socially aware performances that reflect 21st-century realities.
With SAFE HAVEN, the collective continues its mission to reach new audiences by bringing theatre into unexpected spaces and formats.
The production is supported by Arts Council Malta through the Artistic Research & Development Scheme.
