Social & Sustainable Ideas by Youths to Represent Malta in International Competition

On the 20th of May Junior Achievement (JA) Malta held its 34th annual Finals and Awards night which saw a total of 18 awards handed out. The winners of the JA Malta Foundation Company of the Year, h2Lo, along with the winner of the JA Malta Foundation StartUp of the Year, Możaic, have earned the right to represent Malta at Gen E in Istanbul – the largest entrepreneurship festival in the world.

The Teams

Możaic is a team of four students from St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education. Rebecca Lia, Nina Tabone, Alexia Dimech and Tamaya Muscat Aquilina came together to form their own Maltese adaptive clothing brand that strives to empower children through fashion. The aim is to create clothing with the right adaptive elements which would ensure that all the garments produced are accessible to everyone. Thus children can feel confident all the while being comfortable. Możaic puts extra focus on those diagnosed with cancer, autism, down syndrome and ADHD, offering the right adaptive features to make their day-to-day lives easier.

Możaic have given special attention to detail in their logo, from emphasising the different colours that represent diversity and inclusion to the circles that represent playfulness related to children’s interest, for example balls. Being a Maltese brand, the team incorporated the Maltese letter “ż” in their logo, accompanied by the traditional cross of the Order of St John, colloquially known as the “Maltese cross”.

The logo also incorporates children with their arms up and heart shapes, depicting the whole theme behind this team’s product.
Możaic is the 2023 JA Malta StartUp of the Year, and will be competing against 42 other countries in Istanbul.

h2Lo is a team of five students from St Aloysius College Sixth Form. Michaela Camilleri, Cathrina Vassallo, Julian Bilocca, Valentina Farrugia and Andrey Bezzina Maltsev wanted to make their part in contributing towards the betterment of the environment. “We found a niche in the market and our h2Lo 2L bottle was the perfect fit for all those who wish to prioritize health and sustainability.”, said Michaela Camilleri – Management Director.

Explaining the thought process behind the logo, Michaela said that h2Lo was initially a joke between the team although after some time they realized it was perfect. it comprised of the 2L aspect of our bottle and also suggests it’s use as it stands for “hydration is too low” – “h-hydration, is, 2-too, Lo-low”.

H2Lo is the 2023 JA Malta Company of the Year and will be competing against 42 other countries in Istanbul.
