It is Pride Month in Malta, a time where the LGBTQIA+ community unite and celebrate.
Music will also grace the week and there have been many musicians that have impacted the community very positively.
Here are some LGBTQIA+ artists that have influenced the community.
Christina Aguilera
The multiple award-winning singer is one of the leading advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community.
She released “I am Beautiful” in 2004, a song that was more than a statement to the community.
She hasn’t stopped supporting, such as raising awareness of HIV and AIDS and donating proceeds to victims of a gay nightclub shooting.
You also do not want to miss out when she hits the Fosos stage on the 16th September.
Freddie Mercury
Perhaps the greatest rock singer to ever grace music, the Queen frontman wowed past and present audiences.
This is all thanks to his powerful voice and energetic performances that demonstrate acceptance and understanding through his anthems.
Lady Gaga
Through her lyrics and community outreach, she has demonstrated courage and respect.
She is a true role model and created one of the signature Pride anthems, “Born This Way.”
Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X has delved deeper into his music since breaking into the music scene with 2018’s “Old Town Road.”
He has shown fearlessness and bravery in talking about his sexuality in “Call Me By Your Name” and “Sun Goes Down.”
He has gained widespread success with the two songs and has no plans to stop anytime soon.
Elton John
Fresh from retiring after touring, Elton John is one of the greatest musicians of our time.
Known for his flamboyant outfit style, personality and legendary songs, he is also an advocate for queer rights.
Brandi Carlile
The nine-time Grammy award winning songwriter/singer is known for her originality and diverse genres.
She identified herself as a lesbian in 2002 and advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Her most significant work was posting a statement against legislation for same sex individuals in the states educating her fans in the process.
Tyler The Creator
Tyler the Creator came out as bisexual and he has inspired multiple artists with his distinct aesthetic, loud vocals, and unique personality.
His 2019 album “Igor” is one of the most acclaimed albums by an LGBTQIA+ artist.
