Stephen Vella Appointed as MCAST’s New Principal and CEO

In a major move, MCAST has appointed Stephen Vella as its new Principal and CEO, marking a fresh chapter for Malta’s largest vocational institution.

With a career spanning over 20 years in education, Vella is a seasoned leader who’s no stranger to MCAST, having played a key role in shaping its future over the years.

Who is Stephen Vella?

Vella’s educational journey began back in 1993 when he started teaching Graphic Design and Photography at the Salvatore Dimech School for Craftsmen.

His talent for leading was quickly recognised, and by 2003, he was promoted to Deputy Director, where he revamped the school’s curriculum and set it on a path of innovation. But that was just the beginning.

From Creative Arts to Global Influence

In 2008, Vella took charge of the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts, where he led a massive transformation.

Under his leadership, the institute saw a spike in student enrolments, while exciting new courses in Fine Art, Interactive Media, and Photography were introduced.

It was a game-changer, putting MCAST on the map as a hub for creative talent.

By 2015, Vella was moving up once again, this time becoming the Head of the Technical College, further broadening his influence.

And just two years later, he stepped into the role of General Manager at MCAST Gateway to Industry, where he boosted the college’s international reputation, representing MCAST at global fairs and conventions.

Big Plans for MCAST’s Future

Most recently, Vella held the title of Deputy Principal for Business Development and Communications, where he continued his streak of success by spearheading business initiatives and marketing strategies that saw MCAST thrive even during challenging times.

Now, with Vella at the top as Principal and CEO, MCAST is gearing up for even bigger things.

His leadership is expected to focus on expanding opportunities for students, modernising courses, and keeping MCAST at the forefront of vocational education both locally and internationally.

As Vella steps into his new role, students and staff alike are looking forward to what he’ll bring to the table.

With his proven track record of innovation and growth, it’s safe to say MCAST’s future is in good hands!
