Maltese Football fans are in for a treat!
An entire match week from Malta’s top division being played at the Gozo Stadium for the first time ever.
The Gozo Weekend is organized by the Malta Premier League (MPL) in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo Football Association.
The last time Gozo was represented at the highest level was in the 1999/2000 season when Gozo FC competed in the league. Though their stint ended in relegation, the season remains a cherished memory for many Gozitans. Now, a new chapter in Gozitan football history is about to be written as fans eagerly anticipate this thrilling occasion.
A Unique Experience for Fans & Clubs
The Gozo Weekend, for the long weekend of Friday March 28 to Monday March 31, coincides with the final round of the League Phase of the Closing Round.
After this match day the division splits into the Top 6 and Bottom 6 teams. This timing adds extra excitement and intensity to the matches, as clubs push to secure their spots for the decisive phase of the season.
For Gozitan football fans, this is a golden opportunity to witness Malta’s biggest football teams without having to travel to Malta. Now, they can enjoy the action in their own backyard.
For Maltese supporters, this is a chance to experience something different. To make the experience even more appealing, some clubs have even organized weekend packages for their supporters.
Needless to say the Vibe FM team will also make the trip to Gozo to celebrate with local football fans this moment!
A Collaborative Effort
Kampjonat Malta Ltd Chairman, Alan Abela, spoke with great enthusiasm about this event. He acknowledged the Ministry for Gozo, the Gozo Football Association, and all 12 MPL clubs for their enthusiastic support. The logistical and operational efforts of the Gozo Football Association were also praised, as they will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of this historic event.
“The Gozo Weekend is not just about football; it’s about bringing communities together, celebrating the love for the game, and highlighting Gozo’s potential as a destination for major sporting events” – Alan Abela
So if you haven’t done so already, clear up your calendar and make sure you head over to Gozo for this football bonanza!
