There is no place like Barbieland!
By now we all know what the upcoming Barbie movie will look like.
However, there’s still one bright-pink question mark: what will the movie be about?
The only thing we know is that it revolves around a doll living in Barbieland who gets expelled for not being perfect enough and she sets off on an adventure into the real world.
Unless…
We believe that the true story was hiding in plain sight all along.
Multiple fans on TikTok have noted some very interesting Easter eggs that suggest the movie will be similar to ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
There is a very strong connection between the two, so let me convince you as well.
The Movie Theatre
The biggest clue was hiding in plain sight!
The movie theatre Barbie drove past displayed posters for ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
The trailer referenced the classic 1939 film throughout.
Barbie’s Dress
Barbie is wearing a pink gingham dress.
Her dress resembles Dorothy’s blue gingham dress, except that it is pink.
Follow The Pink Brick Road
Just like how Dorothy followed a yellow brick road, Barbie followed a pink highway out of Barbieland!
It’s A Clear Sign!
I mean this sign says it all.
Dorothy’s journey to Emerald City is mirrored in Barbie’s road trip to the real world.
Will Ferrell (The Wizard)
We only have a brief glimpse of Will Ferrell’s character, but it’s clear who he represents.
His character is a toy company CEO in the real world.
This scene reminds us of Dorothy coming face to face with the Wizard of Oz at the end of the movie.
The Pink Slippers
Think of the ruby slippers but make them Barbie.
The slippers have to fit Barbie’s aesthetic of course.
The emphasis on Barbie’s footwear ties it together once you digest all the other Easter eggs.
Find out if Barbie really is our modern-day Dorothy once it comes out in theatres this July!
