Believe it or not social media hasn’t been around forever, even though it’s difficult to remember a time when we weren’t using it every day.
Some things have changed drastically since these platforms were introduced and some have remained the same.
These are some of the first posts on social media platforms.
YouTube
YouTube has such a wide range of content, there is a video for almost anything you can think of.
From Vlogs to video games to giving away a private island YouTube has got it all!
It all started on the 24th April 2005 when one of YouTube’s co-founders, Jawed Karim, posted an 18 second video of himself at the zoo.
The first ever Instagram post was posted by one of Instagram’s co-founders, Mike Krieger, on the 16th July 2010.
The post featured an image of San Francisco’s South Beach Harbor at Pier 38.
A few hours later, former Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom posted a picture of a dog.
I guess dogs have always been trending on Instagram!
Once again, the first tweet came from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.
The tweet reads “just setting up my twttr” the first Twitter account ever that is!
TikTok
Formerly Musical.ly’s first post was by the account @poetisdead and included the song ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston.
Over the years Musical.ly became popular for its lip-syncing videos.
As Musical.ly changed to TikTok so did the content posted there, allowing users to get more creative with their posts.
@poetisdead
Ben Silbermann, co-founder and executive chairman of Pinterest, posted the first Pin of a cardboard cut-out of a couple kissing on a bicycle.
The image was captioned “I thought this was a perfect idea for a valentine’s gift. Very cool!” showing Pinterest’s purpose to be a platform for ideas and inspiration.
Who would have guessed how big these platforms would get!
