Gran Turismo was released in cinemas this week and is the auto racing movie on the block.
Car buffs will be lining up to see it which is also the perfect time to talk about some of the greatest auto racing movies ever released.
Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
This cheesy yet widely entertaining flick follows a car thief who must save his brother from a gangster.
He does this by using Eleanor, his Ford Mustang.
It was poorly received by critics but became a favourite among audiences with its never-ending list of cars and chases.
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
The fifth one is considered the best, but it’s the one that started it all that made the franchise a household name.
Brian O’Connor, an undercover LAPD officer investigates a street racing group of hijackers led by Dominic Torretto.
It’s early 2000s look and music alongside the pimped out cars and adrenaline-filled races were the closest thing to street racing.
It also introduced the beloved main characters that shaped the storyline for the next 9 movies (and counting).
Cars (2006)
Set in a world of talking cars, Lighting McQueen, a rookie racer, finds himself stranded on Radiator Springs.
In the deserted town, he learns more about life and friendship while getting ready for his biggest ever race.
Another highly successful Pixar movie and enjoyable for all families.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
A NASCAR driver must get back to his best after a French driver beats him to become world champion.
This is a hilarious and satirical take on the racing scene thanks to Will Farrell’s presence.
Speed Racer (2008)

Based on the manga and series of the same name, it is a visual fever dream and a cult hit.
Drive (2011)
Ryan Gosling plays an unnamed stuntman by day and a getaway driver by night.
He falls in love with his neighbour and sparks trouble with gangsters when he helps her husband rob a pawn shop.
An outstanding lead performance and a stylish arthouse look make it one of the greatest of the past decade.
Rush (2013)
Starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl, Rush is the true story of the 1976 F1 championship season.
It focuses on the rivalry between Ferrari’s Niki Lauda and McLaren’s James Hunt both on and off the racing track.
It is an exhilarating and crafted piece featuring strong chemistry between the two actors and the most authentic Formula 1 movie.
Mad Max Fury Road (2015)
Max and Furiousa face a cult leader and his army in an endless chase across an apocalyptic desert wasteland
The fourth Mad Max movie is easily the best of the bunch with its epic action sequences and non-stop thrills.
Baby Driver (2017)
Baby, a getaway driver is diagnosed with Tinnitus and plays music on his iPod to ease his condition.
He is forced to participate in a heist by his crime boss that threatens his life and girlfriend if he refuses.
A unique movie that mixes music and action, alongside a relentless pace that never bores.
