Humanity has yet to discover the fountain of youth so some have decided to take matters into their own hands.
This is the case for 45-year-old Bryan Johnson who spends over $2 million a year to try to reverse his biological age.
The multimillionaire tech executive has not always been a health nut.
Johnson says that working in tech destroyed his body and mind for 20 years.
He used to live a very different lifestyle, overeating carbs and sugar in the evenings leading to poor sleep, fatigue and irritability.
The switch flipped when he sold his company, Braintree, for $800 million and got divorced.
He quickly changed his lifestyle and lost 60 pounds in a year.
He adopted a $2 million-a-year antiaging program, Project Blueprint, and since has said he has reversed his “biological age”.
While his chronological age has not changed, Bryan is claiming to reverse his biological age in reference to the age his cells, tissues, and organs appear to be biochemically.
He claims to have the heart of a 37-year-old and the lung capacity of an 18-year-old according to various medical tests performed on him.
His routine is not only costly but also time consuming and requires a lot of discipline.
Johnson begins by waking up at 5 a.m. and does not drink caffeine.
He takes an astonishing 111 pills a day and eats 2,250 calories a day between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Johnson aims to eat 70 pounds of vegetables a month, with no salt or added sugars in his meals.
He works out for 45 to 60 minutes every single day performing 30 exersises each workout.
As for water intake, he does not drink any fluids after 4 p.m. to ensure his sleep will not be disturbed by needing to use the bathroom.
On top of this he uses a machine to strengthen his pelvic floor and bladder.
He works from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and spends two and a half hours of his day for family time, relaxation, skincare, and dental care.
While doing all of this for his body he does not forget his skin and hair.
He has an extensive skincare regimen that he uses to give him the so-called “wrinkles of a 10-year-old and the skin texture of a 14-year-old”.
He applies seven different creams every day, receives weekly acid peels, and has recieved fat injections into his face.
Alongside his crazy skincare habits he also tries to stay out of the sun.
His skin isn’t the only thing he pampers as his haircare routine is just as extensive.
Johnson applies a custom hair formulation designed to prevent hair loss and encourage hair growth.
He wears a red-light-therapy cap for six minutes every morning and gets regular platelet-rich-fibrin treatments which are blood injections into the scalp.
One of his more drastic treatments was blood-plasma donations from young people, including his teenage son, which he has since stopped after not seeing any benefits.
He caps off his days by going to bed at 8:30 p.m.
Whether his routine is actually working is controversial.
Others have adopted some of the same practices as Bryan in an effort to reduce markers of biological aging.
One Doctor Mark Hyman age 63 has claimed to have the health of a 43-year-old thanks to healthy aging habits like a daily smoothie, exercise, and stress reduction.
Evidence of longevity strategies is mixed and there isn’t is enough research to support their effectiveness.
While there are plenty of habits, such as good nutrition and exercise, that are proven to reduce your chances of an early death these habits have not been proven to reverse biological age.
This is largely due to tests to determine biological age being controversial.
