Last Friday saw the release of Hogwarts Legacy, a role playing game set in the wizarding world of the Harry Potter universe.
Developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Warner Bros Games, it is one of the most anticipated games of the year.
Fans have been dreaming for an open world Harry Potter game for decades and their wishes have finally been realised.
The game is set in the 1800s, 100 years before the events of the boy who lived and features a brand new story.
You play as a student who enters Hogwarts at his/her fifth year.
Here are some of the many things you can do in the game…
Create your own character.
As per every role playing game, the very first thing you will be doing is creating your wizard or witch.
You can select the gender of your character alongside the hairstyle, skin color, and how he/she will speak.
This part is important as you cannot make any changes once everything is finalised besides changing your clothes and accessories.
Choose your own house.
Once your character is set, you attend the sorting ceremony to see which house you will be staying.
You will be given a short quiz to determine which house suits you best.
If you aren’t happy with your choice, you can change your decision only once so choose wisely!
The houses are Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
Hufflepuff are hardworkers.
Slytherin is the house that is the most cunning.
Gryffindor is considered as the house of the brave.
Ravenclaw is the most intelligent of them all.
Exploring Hogwarts.
From front to back, Hogwarts castle is entirely explorable.
You can visit the student dorms to befriend students from other houses to strengthen relationships.
Students and even professors can possibly accompany you for the journey.
Your character will be attending classes where he/she will be learning spells, make potions or grow some plants.
Charms, Herbology and Defence Against the Dark Arts are some of the classes that you can participate.
Dungeons and puzzles can also be unlocked inside the castle.
A fully immersive world.
Hogwarts will not be the only location where you will be spending the majority of your time.
Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and The Forbidden Forest all make an appearance here.
Challenges lie in these areas which are essential to level up your character’s talents.
Dark and evil spells such as Avada Kedavra can be learnt.
Magical beasts can also be found.
Some are friendly whilst others are more dangerous.
You can upgrade your wand and use your broomstick as a method for transport.
Hogwarts Legacy is available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC and it has been receiving glowing reviews so far.
Those who own a PS4, an Xbox One or a Nintendo Switch will have to wait a little longer.
