This is why Pop songs are getting shorter

If you’ve noticed songs have been getting shorter, you might be right.

Over the last few years, it seems that new songs have gotten shorter and shorter.

From 2013 to 2018, the average song was around 3 minutes and 50 seconds.

Vibe FM’s Hot 100 showed that the most-voted songs for 2022 had one thing in common; most are under 3 minutes!

At number one we find ‘Unholy’ by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, which runs for just 2 minutes and 35 seconds.

Closely at number 2 we also find Harry Styles’ “As It Was” at 2 minutes 47 seconds long.

Hit songs are getting shorter to fit the attention span of the TikTok generation.

The average attention span has dropped from 12 seconds to 8 seconds…that is shorter than a goldfish!

Research has revealed that human beings are, indeed, lagging behind the goldfish in terms of being able to focus on a task or object.

The average human has an attention span of just 8.25 seconds according to recent studies – 4.25 seconds less than in 2000.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, it was normal for songs to be 5 or even 6 minutes long.

The Eagles’ “Hotel California” goes on for 6 minutes and 30 seconds and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is just under 6 minutes.
