UM Racing has made history!
At this year’s Formula Student UK (FSUK) competition at the iconic Silverstone Circuit, the team earned an impressive 9th place overall — a first for Malta and its engineering community.
The team didn’t just compete—they thrived
A major highlight came when the car passed scrutineering, the competition’s demanding technical inspection. While many international teams spend over five years preparing to pass, UM Racing succeeded on their very first attempt.
The battery pack, a key concern before the event, was among the components that passed inspection immediately.
Competing against top universities worldwide, this event marked the international debut of Malta’s first-ever electric vehicle, designed and built entirely by students from the University of Malta.
Strong Sprint and Endurance Finish Despite Weather Setbacks
Although rain delays prevented the team from competing in the acceleration and skid pad events, they didn’t let that stop them. During the sprint event, they set a strong lap time of 1 minute and 2 seconds—even after encountering and quickly fixing a technical issue.
The weekend culminated with the 22 km endurance race, which the team completed safely and confidently.
From humble beginnings to historic success
UM Racing’s journey is a true story of resilience, teamwork, and national pride.
The team warmly thanks the Maltese community and their sponsors for the unwavering support that made this milestone possible.
A huge well done to everyone involved!
