The Manchester United Women’s team have just capped off a week’s training camp in Malta.
This was a week where the Manchester United team continued their regular training sessions and strengthened their match fitness.
Last Friday, the team played a friendly against Birkirkara where they won 10-0. It also prepared them for the second half of the season starting against arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
The team currently stands in 3rd place in the Women’s Super League, five points behind leaders Chelsea.
The players had the opportunity to sightsee around the country, some of whom were spotted in Valletta.
The manager Marc Skinner, the captain Katie Zelem, Haley Ladd, and Rachel Williams paid a visit to the Manchester United Supporters Club in Imsida to meet and greet with fans, and aspiring footballers alike.
They were given a tour of the club by the committee and president.
I had a quick chat with them and asked each of them a simple question:
Who was that one person that inspired them to become a footballer?
Katie Zelem said that it was her father Alan Zelem as the main source of inspiration.
Haley Ladd mentioned Kelly Smith and Paul Scholes as inspiring figures.
Rachel Williams followed Steven Gerrard and Robbie Savage’s footsteps.
As for Marc Skinner it was Sir Alex Ferguson and the captain herself Katie Zelem where he highly praised her.
What do they think of Malta?
Marc Skinner said he and the team were soaking in the sunny weather Malta was bringing.
Being in Malta the team had the opportunity to taste the pastizzi and they were impressed by how delicious they were.
