While what’s considered weird can vary by culture, us Maltese would consider the 10 upcoming foods as extreme and would never dream of eating them, however, despite their rather unappetising appearances, these bizarre delicacies have a passionate following around the world.
So, are you ready to defy convention and challenge your traditional palate? We dare you to give these weird foods a go.
Casu Marzu (Translation : Rotten Cheese)
If you love trying out rare cheeses then this one is for you!
Casu Marzu is a rare cheese that is infested with live maggots, okay maybe it isn’t for you anymore.
To try and convince you, it originates from Italy, so it must be good, right?
Fried Tarantulas
A dish originating from Cambodia that serves these hairy, eight-legged spiders.
Some even call it a snack.
If you want some encouragement, they taste like crab.
Stargazy Pie
An English dish with a romantic name that will make your appetite disappear as soon as it hits the table.
This dish is actually a tradition served on the 23rd of December, so you’re just in time to give it a try.
Yes, the fish’s head must be poking out of the pie like that (but no, you don’t have to actually eat them).
Tuna Eyeballs
And while we’re on the topic of fish.
Japan loves Tuna, including the Tuna’s eyeballs.
There are many different Tuna eyeball recipes you can try but the easiest way is to boil them or steam them and proceed to season them… you know just in case you want to try them out at home.

Alligator
In the US, Alligator meat is actually considered healthy and a good alternative for red meat.
Some say it tastes like fish others say more like chicken, you try it and let us know.
If you’re a bigger daredevil than we expected, you can also try the alligator eggs.

If you happen to be visiting Laos or Thailand, and want to be daring, you should try their ant eggs as not only is it weird but it is rich in protein and has a sweet flavour.
There are a couple of dishes you can try with ant eggs but ants egg soup is one of the most popular, I mean just look at it.
Chicken Feet
Chicken feet is a dish that is cooked in different ways depending on which region you’re eating it in Asia.
It can be served as a bar snack, in a soup or even as a main dish, some prefer it spicy and with a strong alcoholic drink on the side.

Frog Legs
Frog legs are a popular French dish, and are prepared with butter, garlic and parsley sauce.
Don’t shy away from trying it, apparently many like this dish.

The South Americans and Puerto Ricans know what they’re doing when it comes to the tails of pigs.
The weirdest way to eat them is the Puerto Rican style sandwiches, where pig tails are eaten raw.

China and Southeast Asia found a way to cook the poisonous Scorpion well enough to make it safe for eating.
Eating a scorpion sounds like a daredevil thing to do, but if you’re actually going to give it a try, remember to only do so in a trusted location.
