Why You Should Consider Slow Travel In Your Vacations?

Slowing down and moving at our own pace is a rarity these days considering how eventful and busy most of our lives are.

Vacations also come into play as they usually involve seeing and eating at as many places as possible in a limited amount of time.

There are no setbacks involved since you are making a bucket list, but it doesn’t sound like the most relaxing experience.

Esther Susag, a travel blogger said people would want to embark on another vacation after they had just been on one as they felt very tired.

This is where you can consider slow travel, when you cherish each moment instead of rushing from point A to B.

Many travellers have their own definition of slow travel but the most accurate one comes from travel expert and author La Carmina.

Slow travel is all about being in the moment with no distractions and expectations.

You can immerse yourself in the local culture at your own ease.

There is nothing compulsory like staying in one city for an extended period of time, it’s more about the compassion one brings.

You get to know the locals and experience more improvised activities than those you see online.

They also show you some of their favourite hidden spots that are often overlooked.

These conversations are also open to practicing their own language skills leading to purposeful chats.

Mark Wolters, creator of Wolters World said that his children learned to make cultural food in the three countries he visited with them.

The foods were pasta in Italy, pupasas in El Salvador and sandwiches in Portugal.

This creates an immersive and rewarding experience that will stay long in your memory after you arrive home.

Slow travel also benefits the environment in some ways.

Carbon emissions are less since transits by plane, bus or train to certain destinations are reduced.

It also saves you more money than a standard holiday since your plans don’t involve many activities.

To get the full slow travel experience, your to-do list must be minimal or empty.

You have to understand the meaning of visiting a destination rather than seeing it.

Spread out your visits!

Example: spend the morning at a cafe, the afternoon reading a book in a park, and head to a theater in the evening.

Jessica Van Dop DeJesus, founder of The Dining Traveler blog praised remote working as an easy method of slow travel.

It’s also advisable to rent independent cabins, villas or resorts rather than city centre hotels.

Taking in the tranquility of the atmosphere makes it a great place to relax.
