Some actors start young and go on with a fruitful career.
Others start out with a bang but fizzle off.
Here are some of the biggest child stars and where are they now in their lives…
Dylan and Cole Sprouse
The twins are best known for playing Zack and Cody Martin on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody when they were in their adolescence.
The show aired on the Disney Channel between 2005-2008 and was followed by its spin-off The Suite Life on Deck between 2008-2011.
The two briefly left acting to study video game design at New York University after the show.
Today, the Sprouse twins are still actors. Dylan has starred in several music videos whilst Cole stars in Riverdale.
Dylan also owns a brewery in Brooklyn which he opened in 2018.
Ke Huy Quan
The American-born Vietnamese actor broke through in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies between 1984 and 1985.
In 1998, he quit acting to enroll in film school after having trouble finding acting jobs.
He spent the next decade choreographing stunts, before being cast in Everything Everywhere All at Once, his comeback acting role released in 2022.
This year saw Ke win multiple awards for the movie including a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson
The trio were all 11 when they were cast in the first Harry Potter installment, The Philosopher’s Stone.
They grew together over eight films spanning 10 years, and were one of the main reasons for the movies’ success.
After the saga ended, the trio continued their acting careers.
Daniel starred in several roles. His latest role is in the Weird Al Jankovic story.
Rupert has also acted in movies and Broadway shows. This year he starred in Knock at the Cabin.
Emma’s most recent role was Meg in Little Women. She has also become an activist for the environment and gender equality.
Hilary Duff
Similar to the Sprouse twins, Hilary Duff’s breakthrough was on Disney Channel in The Lizzie Maguire Show playing the main role.
The 2001 show made her a teen idol and ran for 65 episodes with the movie serving as the finale.
She has continued acting since then and worked as a glass designer.
Duff has just launched a collection of baby clothes at Carter’s.
Maculay Culkin
Everyone knows him as Kevin McCallister in the 90s Christmas classic Home Alone and its sequel Lost in New York.
While taking a break from acting, he co-founded and sang in a band called The Pizza Underground.
He also started a podcast called Bunny Ears.
Culkin returned to acting in American Horror Story and married Brenda Song, another Disney Channel actor.
Miley Cyrus
She made a name for herself on Hannah Montana playing the main character.
This helped her build a singing career releasing multiple record-breaking singles.
A few examples include “We can’t stop”, “Wrecking Ball” and most recently “Flowers.”
During this stint she also served as a judge on The Voice and appeared in a few acting roles like Black Mirror.
Mara Wilson
Wilson was only 6 when she debuted in Mrs Doubtfire in 1993.
3 years later, she was cast in the lead role of Matilda in the musical of the same name.
She sacrificed her acting career to pursue her dream as an author and journalist.
Some of the work she wrote included a play called Sheeple and a personal memoir.
She also wrote an essay for the New York Times in 2021 about the dangers of child actors.
