Zayn Malik has recently been on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast for his first interview in six years!
Here’s a rundown of the main points he talked about!
He Has A Lot Of Animals
Zayn has three cats, three dogs, three tortoises, and six chickens.
He said that they “kind of” get along and that “they are in different places around the house.”
One of his cats is named Dobby since Malik is a Harry Potter fan and one of his dogs is named Fumper, like Thumper from Bambi but with an ‘F’.
Why He Stopped Doing Interviews
Zayn explained to the host of the podcast, Alex Cooper, why he chose to return to the spotlight.
He talked about feeling overexposed in One Direction.
“I feel like we were so overexposed in the band that that’s why I took the time that I have to not even necessarily do interviews” Zayn said.
“It takes a bit of time for you naturally to progress as a human and give something else that is interesting that you have to say” he added.
Leaving One Direction
He believed it was the right thing to do at that time.
“I don’t think I could have done it any longer. I got out at the right time.”
“There was a lot of politics going on. Certain people were doing certain things and people didn’t want to sign contracts. I knew something was happening.
He explained how he got ahead of the curve and “completely selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record.”
“I am serious about my own music” he added.
The band had been together for five years by that time and “got sick of each other”.
Getting To Know Zayn Malik
When asked whether he thinks if “the world even slightly knows Zayn yet?”.
He replied: “I hope I still have some juice, hopefully they can get to know me and see my thought patterns. I am trying to be an open book.”
If he were to describe himself in three words he would say “chill, funny, and loving” adding that he liked how he was “witty and smart”.
He disproved some people’s perceptions of him saying he was not “super stern or serious” all the time.
“I am a bit sensitive sometimes and can take things the wrong way. It is something I am working on.”
Zayn On Fatherhood
In 2020, Malik and his girlfriend at the time, Gigi Hadid, welcomed a daughter together, Khai.
The following year, he and Gigi split up and he now cares for Khai 50% of the time.
“Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her”.
When he’s with her he doesn’t work at all. “Time I have with her is so important because I feel like she’s growing up so fast.”
His daughter even shares his love for music.
“She shows a lot of signs of musical intelligence already. Like I’ll sing and she sings along and she can do good harmonies and stuff already, she’s only two and a half and she harmonises with me well.”
His Return To Music
Zayn has put out a new song today, ‘Love Like This’.
He said “It’s just a summer jam. It’s a good vibe. It just feels like summer.”
Zayn revealed he was feeling nervous going back onstage after his break from performing.
“But I have this energy too, like I have something to give and I want to get on stage”.
