Last Saturday, KISS, one of the most famous rock bands in history, wrapped up their “The End of the Road” farewell tour at Madison Square Garden.
Everyone thought that this would be the end of the road for the band or was it?
While leaving the stage, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer (the members) showed off their own digital avatars.
Soon after transforming themselves, they sang “God Gave Rock and Roll to You.”
Virtual KISS is state of the art technology that marks 50 years for the band and an exciting era.
George Lucas’s visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic created the digital avatars.
It collaborated with Pophouse Entertainment Group which was founded by ABBA member Bjorn Ulvaeus.
Both companies have recently launched the “ABBA Voyage” concert where the Swedish Band were digital avatars.
KISS members wore motion capture suits for avatar creation.
PopHouse CEO Per Sundin stated that the innovative technology will allow KISS and other bands maintain their status forever.
While physically the members aren’t there, the advantage is that they can perform in different cities on one night.
Paul Stanley, the band’s frontman, said technology immortalized them.
Large sections of the music industry have been using this technology regularly.
Mark Tuan, a K-pop musician, teamed up with Soul Machines to create a digital twin called Digital Mark.
He became the first celebrity to attach their likeness to GPT integration.
GPT integration is AI technology that allows fans to participate in one-to-one discussions with their favourite celebrity.
A K-pop girl group called Aespa perform often with their digital avatars at concerts.
Similarly, Eternity is another all-female group and they are all virtual characters.
