A Weekend of Thrills and Tech Marvels
Get ready for an electrifying celebration of technology and engineering! The Second Edition of the IEEE Region 8 Robot Championships is coming to Malta. It will take place on November 23rd and 24th, 2024, at the Montekristo Estate Arena. This global robotics event will showcase cutting-edge innovation. It will inspire tech enthusiasts of all ages.

The two-day event will begin with an opening ceremony on November 23rd at 14:00. Adrenaline-fueled robotics games will follow from 15:30 to 20:00. The excitement continues on November 24th, starting at 11:00. The day will wrap up with an awards ceremony at 18:00. From battling bots to intricate problem-solving challenges, this event aims to ignite a passion for STEM.
Competitions:
The competitions are set to be a thrilling spectacle, featuring four main games:
- Time of Fall: Where robots compete to topple their opponents in the shortest time.
- Climate Chaos: A race through a complex maze designed to raise awareness of climate change.
- Weight in Line: A strategic game of precision involving the placement of weights.
- Hanging Hazard: A Challenge where teams strategically maneuver rugby balls while, at the same time, avoiding obstacles.
Hands-On STEM Activities for Everyone
Beyond the competitive action, attendees can engage in interactive STEM activities. Visitors will get to try their hand at coding. They can control various robots and learn the foundational principles of ICT engineering. They aim to inspire young minds and promote a lifelong interest in science and technology.
Introducing the Marble-Powered Programming Competition
Adding an exciting twist to this year’s event, the Marble-Powered Programming Competition will engage students aged 11 to 15 in a unique coding challenge. Participants will navigate rounds of programming puzzles, culminating in a thrilling final showdown. This innovative competition provides a hands-on approach to learning, emphasizing problem-solving and creative thinking.

The IEEE Region 8 Robot Championships are made possible thanks to the collaboration of the IEEE Malta Section, IEEE Region 8, and key sponsors like Cassar Marine Group, MCAST, and TECH.MT. The event is supported by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Research, and Innovation. Hon. Tanti Azzopardi, has expressed pride in supporting initiatives that drive Malta’s tech future forward.
