360 Sports Malta Premier MatchDay Nineteen Roundup

Ħamrun Spartans lost their 100 per cent record after they were held to a goalless draw by Floriana.

Sliema Wanderers and Marsaxlokk both chalked up their second win of the season while Birkirkara were held to a 1-1 draw by Melita.

Here is a roundup of all the action from Matchday 19 by SportsDesk.

Floriana FC (0 – 0) Ħamrun Spartans FC

The top match of the weekend was the clash between Ħamrun Spartans and Floriana and the two teams didn’t disappoint as they put on a fascinating duel that left the fans glued to their seats till the end.

Ħamrun did have the better chances but could not find a way past Floriana goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi while Henry Bonello produced two fine stops to deny Jake Grech.

In the end, the stalemate prevailed that left the Spartans top on seven points, one ahead of Sliema and Marsaxlokk.

Mosta FC (0 – 1) Sliema Wanderers FC

The Wanderers needed a Vito Plut second-half goal to overcome the challenge of Mosta and climb to second in the standings.

Marsaxlokk FC (1 – 0) Hibernians FC

On their part, Marsaxlokk produced a solid showing to see off Hibernians 1-0.

Alex De Aguiar turned out to be Marsaxlokk’s hero for the second successive match as after last week’s brace in a 3-1 win over Żabbar St. Patrick, on Sunday he struck the winner against Hibernians.

Birkirkara FC (1 – 1) Melita FC

Birkirkara dropped more precious points after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Melita.

Maxuell Maia gave the Stripes the perfect start after four minutes but Melita fought back and managed to draw level through an Alan Borg Olivier penalty conversion.

Gżira United FC (1 – 0) Naxxar Lions FC

Gżira United bagged their first win of the season when they edged past Naxxar Lions 1-0.

Gabriel Mentz grabbed the all-important goal for the Maroons when converting a penalty.

Żabbar St. Patrick FC (3 – 2) Mosta FC

Żabbar St Patrick were back to winning ways when they strolled past Balzan 3-0.

Luka Jankovic inadvertently diverted into his own net following a Żabbar free-kick.

Balzan finished with nine men when first they had Henri Stanic sent off for hitting an oppoonent while Rafael Lopes was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

The Saints wrapped up the win when netting two goals in stoppage time through Stefan Ilica and Diogo Tavares.
