Floriana are one win away from being crowned champions, as results went the Greens’ way during the last MatchDay of the Malta Premier, which was played between Sunday and Monday.
Starting the day in fourth place, Floriana’s path to the top was made it easier after rivals Ħamrun Spartans, Marsaxlokk, Sliema Wanderers, and Birkirkara all failed to take the three points from their respective matches.

Floriana looked impressive in their 3-0 dismantling of Mosta.
Darren Abdilla’s men took the lead courtesy of a fine strike by Fernandinho directly from a free-kick.
Mosta tried to hit back but Floriana were too good for them on the day and Matias Garcia added a second early in the second half before Elvis Mashike wrapped up the points with a third goal.
Sliema Wanderers FC (1 – 1) Ħamrun Spartans FC
Ħamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers were forced to settle with a point following a 1-1 draw.
Vito Plut put the Wanderers ahead but Ħamrun fought back levelled matters through their prolific Brazilian striker Raphael Lopes Silva.
Birkirkara FC (1 – 1) Marsaxlokk FC
Birkirkara looked on their way to overcome Marsaxlokk when Kemar Reid put them ahead with a fine individual strike.
But Marsaxlokk fought back and levelled matters courtesy of a Yuri Messias penalty.
Żabbar St. Patrick FC (2 – 0) Melita FC
In the Bottom Six, Żabbar St Patrick ensure they remain in the top flight for another season when they eased past bottom-placed Melita 2-0.
The Saints were on top throughout the match and took the lead just before half-time through Marcelo Santos.
Melita tried to fight back in the second half, but the Saints went on to add a second late on through Diogo Tavares.
Gżira United FC (0 – 2) Naxxar Lions FC
Naxxar Lions put themselves in a strong position to avoid automatic relegation when they stunned Gżira United 2-0.
Edson Farias put the Lions ahead with a firm strike from a free-kick and then wrapped up the points with a second goal scored by Bacary Sane.
Hibernians FC (1 – 1) Balzan FC
Hibernians were held to a 1-1 draw against Balzan.
The Paolites looked on their way when Lucas Villela put them ahead from a penalty spot.
But Balzan refused to throw in the towel and managed to level matters late on through Elvis Kamsoba.
