Get ready for a different kind of Saturday morning this summer. On Saturday 2nd August 2025, kids from all over Malta and Gozo will come together in Birkirkara for the Chess Buddies Malta Primary Mixed Interschool Chess Tournament – and it’s not just about who wins on the board.
Organised by Chess Buddies Malta, this tournament is all about fun, friendship, learning, and giving back. The tournament is organized in collaboration with Malta Chess Federation, Swieiqi Chess Club and University of Malta Chess Club. Designed specifically for children aged 6–12, it’s a pressure-free environment where primary school students will play in mixed teams, meet new friends, and enjoy a full morning of games and activities.

Whether your kid is a beginner or already playing like Magnus Carlsen, this tournament is a perfect fit. Here’s what each €10 entry includes:

Chess Buddies Malta is a growing, grassroots movement that’s changing how kids in Malta experience chess. With a focus on beginners, inclusivity, and fun, they organise school collaborations, tournaments, and meetups that help kids grow through the game.
