A celebration of Malta’s milk heritage by the Malta Food Agency, and it’s all for a good cause!
The Malta Food Agency has launched IL-Ħalib: Storja, Xjenza u Kultura, a new book celebrating Malta’s dairy story. The event took place at San Anton Palace under the patronage of Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta.
The publication dives deep into how milk has shaped Malta’s identity. It explores the role of dairy in Maltese history, science, and everyday life. From traditional farming practices to modern innovations, the book highlights how milk remains a vital part of Maltese culture.
The pages are filled with fascinating stories, research, and stunning visuals. Readers can learn how local farmers kept traditions alive and how milk influenced Maltese cuisine over the years. It’s both educational and nostalgic, a true tribute to Malta’s food heritage.
In her speech, the President praised the Malta Food Agency and the authors for their dedication. She described IL-Ħalib as “a publication that captures Malta’s rich heritage and evolving story.” She also highlighted the agency’s decision to donate all proceeds to the Malta Community Chest Fund, calling it a beautiful act of generosity.
Malta Food Agency CEO Brian Vella thanked everyone who contributed to the project. He said IL-Ħalib is not only a book but a bridge between generations. “We’re passing down pride, knowledge, and passion for local produce,” he added.
The launch of IL-Ħalib continues the agency’s mission to preserve Maltese food traditions and promote sustainability. It reminds us that behind every local product, there’s a story worth telling.
