Because for some families, generosity is what keeps hope alive.
Christmas is usually about presents, big meals, and spending time with the people we love. But in Malta, it’s also about something deeper, looking out for those who need us most. That’s exactly what L-Istrina stands for.
This year, on 26th December, Malta marks 30 years of L-Istrina. A day that feels like a second Christmas, but with one key difference: instead of receiving, we give.
And every donation truly matters.
How L-Istrina Makes a Difference
L-Istrina supports families facing some of life’s hardest challenges. Whether big or small, every contribution helps change lives, including the life of 13-year-old Thiago.
Meet Thiago
Thiago is full of energy, curiosity, and a smile that lights up the room. But behind that smile is a journey no child should have to face alone.
Every 12 weeks, Thiago needs to travel to London for medical treatment to relieve pressure in his brain. The condition affects his optic nerves and causes him intense pain.
✈️ Thanks to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCF), Thiago and his parents receive ongoing support, with travel costs covered so his family can always be by his side.

Giving Back, Even When It’s Hard
Despite everything he goes through, Thiago wants to help others.
On Saturday 20th December, Thiago and his friends from their youth group are organising a car wash fundraiser in Triq il-Wied, Qormi (near the Bocci Club), from 8am to 3pm.
🚗 All funds raised will go directly to MCCF, helping other families facing similar struggles.
Big Dreams, Bigger Heart
When he’s not fundraising or travelling for treatment, Thiago has a passion for miniature religious statues, he even collects them. One day, he dreams of becoming a sacristan, and next summer, he’ll be travelling to Vatican City with the Maltese altar boys.
Proof that even in difficult moments, hope and purpose can shine through.
