Visitors attending the Malta International Food Festival will have the opportunity to make every step count by taking part in the Walk Their Journey – 100KM Challenge, an initiative raising awareness of the daily realities faced by communities around the world while supporting a meaningful cause.
The interactive challenge highlights the long distances that many children and adults in developing countries walk every day simply to attend school, collect clean water and access other basic necessities.

Throughout the festival, four treadmills will be available for members of the public to take part. Participants are invited to donate €5 for every 100 metres walked, with the option of contributing more and covering a greater distance if they wish.
Together, organisers are aiming to reach a collective target of 100 kilometres by the end of the event. A live distance tracker will display the total kilometres completed, allowing visitors to follow the community’s progress in real time and encouraging more people to join the challenge.

In an added boost to the initiative, the Malta International Food Festival has pledged to match every donation raised, effectively doubling the funds collected and increasing the impact of every contribution made during the event.
More than just a fundraising activity, the Walk Their Journey – 100KM Challenge offers participants a chance to reflect on the everyday journeys that millions of people around the world undertake simply to meet their basic needs.
By turning a short walk into an act of solidarity, organisers hope the initiative will inspire greater awareness while encouraging festival-goers to support communities facing these daily challenges.
