Ke Huy Quan: From quitting acting to Oscar winner.

An American style comeback is something you see in the movies.

In the case of the American born Vietnamese actor Ke Huy Quan however, the past year has been exactly that.

Last night, he took home his first Oscar for his performance as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Before being cast in the film, he was mostly known as a child actor.

In the 1980s, he starred in two of the biggest American blockbusters, both of which were Steven Spielberg productions.

He burst onto the scene as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in which Harrison Ford co-starred with him.

A year later, he was in The Goonies playing the role of tech-savvy Data.

He was one of the main four children in the film alongside Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Jeff Cohen.

Despite those two movies being massively successful, Ke struggled to find work in the 90s.

Opportunities proved to be very limited with Encino Man being his only work.

He starred alongside Brendan Fraser who also won an Oscar last night.

In 1998, he quit acting and entered a film school in California.

For the next decade, Ke’s work revolved behind the camera.

He was a stunt choreographer in action films like X Men and The One.

In 2018, Quan saw the film Crazy Rich Asians, which inspired him to return to acting.

Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan began casting actors for their film Everything Everywhere All at Once that same year.

They struggled to find one suited to the role of Waymond Wang.

Ke auditioned, impressed both directors and was selected for the role that would eventually change his life.

Fast forward five years later, Ke has made more than just a comeback.

He has won multiple awards for his role including a Golden Globe and now an Oscar that sealed his comeback.

During his speech he was understandably very emotional.

Ke thanked several people including his wife Echo for her endless amount of support.

Quan also reunited with Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg who landed him in Hollywood in the first place.

He even loves to update his fellow fans on Instagram by taking selfies with multiple celebrities in his signature finger pointing pose.
