The 2026 Malta Beach Soccer National Leagues kicked off in spectacular fashion at Pretty Bay, Birżebbuġa, with both the men’s and women’s competitions delivering an abundance of goals, excitement and entertainment during the opening rounds of fixtures.
Men’s Beach Soccer National League
The Men’s Beach Soccer National League got underway with an action-packed start, as six matches produced an incredible total of 70 goals, highlighting the attacking quality on display across the competition.
Ħamrun SC made an emphatic statement in their opening fixture, recording an impressive 11-0 victory over Costa Viola. Weverton Gomes and Matos Wescley both scored hat-tricks, while Maicon and Antonello Demanuele added two goals each. Yessous Camilleri also found the net to complete a dominant performance.
One of the most entertaining matches of the opening round saw Spartans and Sliema Beach Soccer battle to a thrilling 4-4 draw at the end of regular time. Spartans eventually emerged victorious after extra time. Andre Joe Cutajar scored twice for Spartans, with Shalon Diacono and Samuel Saldanha also getting on the scoresheet. Sliema responded through Lee Joe Schembri, who netted twice, alongside goals from Koiba Desire and Brandon Bray.
Phoenix FC opened their campaign with an entertaining 8-5 victory over W/A Agency. Cristian Urbina starred with four goals, while Kayne Haber completed a hat-trick and Matthew Curmi added another. W/A Agency’s goals came courtesy of Mohamed Ahmad, who scored three times, while Mohamed Amri and Wisam El Zaredi each contributed a goal.
In another high-scoring encounter, W/A Agency edged Costa Viola 9-8 in a dramatic contest that kept spectators entertained until the final whistle.
La Playa de Arena also enjoyed a dream start to the season, producing a commanding 9-0 victory over Phoenix FC. Daryl Micallef led the way with a hat-trick, while Sheldon Mizzi and Dale Tabone each scored twice. Karl Caruana and Daniel Camenzuli also added their names to the scoresheet.
Spartans maintained their excellent form by registering a convincing 10-2 victory over Ballun FC. Fabrizio Zammit was the standout performer with five goals, while Samuel Saldanha added a further three. Dale Valletta scored once and an own goal by Nigel Joe Borg completed Spartans’ tally. Ballun FC’s goals were scored by Ryan Spencer and Saul Figueroa.
Women’s Beach Soccer National League
The Women’s Beach Soccer National League also got underway last week, delivering four entertaining matches and plenty of goals as the teams began their quest for league honours.
Birkirkara opened their campaign with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Skill and Passion in a match that produced ten goals. Despite trailing during the encounter, the Stripes showed resilience and determination to overturn the deficit and secure all three points.
The clash between Parr Mela Rockets and Ballun FC proved equally dramatic. After the teams finished level at 4-4 at the end of regular time, extra time also failed to separate them as the score moved to 5-5. The contest was eventually decided by penalties, with Ballun FC prevailing 3-2 in the shootout.
In the second round of fixtures, Sliema delivered an impressive display to defeat Birkirkara 4-2. Their disciplined performance and control of key moments in the match underlined their credentials as potential title contenders this season.
Parr Mela Rockets bounced back strongly from their opening setback, recording a convincing 7-2 victory over Skill and Passion to secure their first win of the campaign.
With goals flowing freely and teams already showcasing their quality, both the men’s and women’s leagues have made a thrilling start, setting the stage for another exciting season of beach soccer in Malta.
