Joseph Muscat has been unanimously confirmed as Chairman of the Malta Premier League (MPL) following a vote of confidence during the organisation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Muscat secured all 12 votes cast in a secret ballot, with no votes against, earning a second term at the helm of the league. His reappointment comes at a time of significant financial growth for the MPL, which reported a surplus of €475,000 for the 2025/26 season.
During the AGM, members were informed that the Malta Premier League’s revenue has experienced remarkable growth since its establishment, increasing from €60,000 to just under €1 million in only two years of operation.

The meeting also saw changes to the Malta Football Association (MFA) Executive Board. Victor Cassar of Hamrun Spartans FC and Johann Said of Floriana FC were elected to fill positions vacated by Keith Perry and Michael Valenzia.
The Malta Premier League expressed its appreciation to its commercial partners, acknowledging their continued trust and support as a key factor in the organisation’s growth and development.
Meanwhile, the AGM approved the calendar for the upcoming 2026/27 Malta Premier League season. The new campaign is set to begin on Friday, 14 August, while the draws and match sequence for the first eleven match weeks of the Opening Round – League Phase will take place on 20 July.
The positive financial results and the unanimous backing for Dr Muscat’s leadership underline a period of stability and growth for the Malta Premier League as it prepares for another season of top-flight football.
