Mark Borg Appointed UEFA Delegate for Futsal Euro 2026 Finals

Malta Futsal Association President, Perit Mark Borg, has been appointed as a UEFA delegate for the 2026 UEFA Futsal European Championship Finals, marking a proud moment for both the Maltese futsal community and Maltese sport as a whole.

The prestigious tournament will be played between 21st January and 7th February 2026, jointly hosted by Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia. Perit Borg has been assigned responsibility for Group D, which features Italy, Hungary, Poland, and reigning champions Portugal. All matches in this group will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

As a UEFA delegate, Borg will play a central role in overseeing the organisation of the matches, ensuring every aspect adheres to UEFA’s high standards and regulations. His duties include supervision of venue infrastructure, medical services, operations, and overall match organisation, working closely with an experienced UEFA team to guarantee a smooth and professional event.

This appointment is particularly significant as it represents the first time a Maltese official has been entrusted with a role at the final stage of a European futsal championship, a milestone that underscores Malta’s growing reputation in international futsal circles.

Perit Borg has served as President of the Malta Futsal Association for the past 13 years and brings a wealth of experience from his involvement in numerous international fixtures and tournaments — including UEFA Champions League matches, European competitions, and World Cup qualifiers. However, this marks his first appointment at the final stage of a major UEFA futsal tournament, a testament to his professional capability and the confidence UEFA has placed in his leadership.

In addition to overseeing match operations, Borg will act as a key liaison between the participating teams and UEFA, addressing logistical and operational matters to ensure the smooth flow of the competition.

Commenting on his appointment, Perit Borg expressed his pride and gratitude, describing the role as “a great honour, not only personally but also for the Malta Futsal Association, the Malta Football Association, and Maltese sport in general.” He added that futsal in Malta continues to gain international recognition — a progress further strengthened by the recent appointment of Dr Paris to the UEFA Futsal Committee.

This achievement stands as an inspiring example of Malta’s growing influence in European futsal, reflecting the nation’s ongoing commitment to excellence and representation on the continental stage.
